Hi All,Has any one here diagnosed with achalasia like symptoms? For the last 3 months, I've had a hard time swallowing and having food move down into the stomach. The food is constantly stuck in my esophagus and I have had a barium swallow and an upper GI endoscopy and they ruled out any diverticulum (pocket/pouch) in the esophagus. Most of the times after having food, I get breathing problems until until I vomit the food out. These symptoms point to Achalasia which is caused when the LES (Lower Esophagus Sphincter) is not relaxed to let food into stomach. On further reading, I found this:"LES pressure and relaxation are regulated by excitatory (e.g., acetylcholine, substance P) and inhibitory (e.g., nitric oxide, vasoactive intestinal peptide) neurotransmitters. Persons with achalasia

lack nonadrenergic, noncholinergic, inhibitory ganglion cells, causing an imbalance in excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmission. The result is a hypertensive nonrelaxed esophageal sphincter."I am almost positive that my use of zoloft caused this. Your thoughts??Thanks,Steve
