Guest guest
Got a letter saying I've had an abnormal CBC and should contact doctor. (Naturally, the letter was mailed 15 DAYS after the blood draw.) Figuring its liver, I may suspend atovaquone (mepron), zith, and artemsisinin - at any rate I'll suck down some milk thistle, antioxidants, beta sitosterol, undenatured whey, and psyllium. Till I can get in touch next week. But I guess it could also be kidneys or marrow, which brings me to my question - I've never really seen this discussed, anywhere. What do you do about continuing meds when you have some funky lab values pertaining to liver, kidneys, or blood cells. Obviously I'll be asking my doctors opinion but want to be prepared with the right questions, and anyway I ultimately decide for myself. Guest guest
, if your letter mentioned an abnormal CBC, then that wouldn’t be checking for liver or kidney issues. That would be included in a metabolic panel. This would be the RBC, WBC, Hemoglobin, hematocrit, etc. Any issues w/anemia or anything? Perhaps your white count is just a little off. Did they do a differential? Patrice From: Hodologica [mailto:usenethod@...] Sent: Friday, March 18, 2005 8:37 PM infections Subject: [infections] continue drugs despite abnormal CBC? Guest guest
Really? It doesnt have BUN or a coupla liver enzymes? I'll be dang'd. I dig all the other stuff you mentioned, but what is a differential - is that the breakdown of white cell types? <PKR527@k...> wrote: > , if your letter mentioned an abnormal CBC, then that wouldn't be > checking for liver or kidney issues. Guest guest
No, liver enzymes and BUN would be included in a metabolic screen or sometimes called a comprehensive profile. They can do lipids with the comprehensive profile. The CBC specifically is the RBC, WBC, HGB, HCT, MCV, MCH,, MCHC, RDW, Platelets and MPV. The differential does break down the white cells (into percentages of granulocytes, lymphocyes, etc.) Ever any platelet issues? I don’t know your Medical history (I’m sure it’s recorded, but I don’t get on here a lot), so it’s hard to speculate, but could be something that by the time they draw a repeat, it’s corrected itself. Guest guest
Ah, PLATELETs, I done forgot about em, yes Ive had a touch of the old thrombocytopenia long before I even went down hard. Oddly, they were back in biz last time I checked - which was many months ago, before any treatment, at a time when I was prostrated and having enough anxiety to have trouble breathing! I've even always had good numbers (% and absolute) of lymphocytes. Monocytes elevated once but I doubt they are now, since I am so much less sick. <PKR527@k...> wrote: > No, liver enzymes and BUN would be included in a metabolic screen or > sometimes called a comprehensive profile. Guest guest
I have been thrombocytopenic with all the usual signs including the petechial rashes since 1982 which is when I became very ill. I looked back over the tests results since then and observed the higher my fibrinogen the lower my platelets. I used enzymes, mostly bromelain, to treat the ISAC; after that had an obvious effect my platlets went up to 100, the highest they have been, and my fibrinogen levels were the lowest they have been too. I did have my lymphocytes go down to such a low level early on they thought I might have AIDS, macrophages were abnormal too. Later the lymphocyte #s increased, they were never really high or low but the T Helper levels remained high whilst the TSuppressor remained low. The other WBC are frequently high especially my neutrophils. Throughout all these years these signs my immune system was clearly responding to something. Guest guest
Tansy: Any chace you remember what were your fibrinogen levels before/after taking the enzymes? Thanks, o > > > No, liver enzymes and BUN would be included in a metabolic screen > > or > > > sometimes called a comprehensive profile. Guest guest
I think out of 11 CBCs over the last three years all but 2 had elevated white counts, and on both of those I was on antibiotics. Neutrophils were elevated last July and September, back in range on antibiotics in January. My RBC took a big dive in January, the range is fairly broad and I was a couple points from being under it. Hoping that is a response to Babesia treatment, but that's the same lab report where my testosterone went from low to clinically deficient. Low testosterone reduces RBCs, which may be why resistance to blood parasites like malaria and Babesia is torpedoed when testosterone is deficient. , your testosterone has been deficient, and you've been undergoing Babesia treatment - I wonder if they flagged your RBCs? Could be the other thing you mentioned, of course. Cheers, > > > No, liver enzymes and BUN would be included in a metabolic screen > > or > > > sometimes called a comprehensive profile.
