Guest guest
IMHO, you may wish to acquire several different tetracyclines and rotate between them monthly. You may wish to look at my survey at http://lassesen.com/cfids/antibiotics.htm in selecting additional antibiotics. Ken Lassesen, From: doggy532001 [mailto:doggy532001@...] I wonder if anybody can comment on whether my taking 500 mg twice daily of Clarithromycin should be beneficial. I have done well on Doxy plus pulsed Tinidazole fir 6 months but became quite poorly again within 2 weeks of stopping this combination, hence my trying Clarithromycin next (when it arrives from Mexico). The reason I am asking is that I couldn't tolerate the Plaquenil last time I tried to take it. I got severe tinnitus from the first dose and it seemed to affect my CNS badly making me feel quite dizzy and anxious. Therefore I really want to do without it if I can and just take the Biaxin. I am happy to take Samento with the Clarithroymycin and also to take anti-fungal meds like flucanzole every 4th day as well plus all my usual supplements. Would be grateful for opinions. Thanks Pam
Guest guest
Hi Pam, Hopefully you'll have no problem, but I had severe vertigo on Biaxin and was grateful to learn that the " mycins " (Biaxin and Zithromax are both in this group) are particularly prone to having ototoxic effects (lasting damage to the inner ear) in susceptible patients. I have a family history of vestibular problems, which may make me unusually vulnerable. My doctor confirmed that concern at a recent appointment and I have switched to Levaquin - which can cause its own problems with tendons, but I'm tolerating it pretty well so far. If you ordered Biaxin XL, those pills aren't supposed to be cut because of the time release thing. The regular Biaxin tablets can be cut, which would allow you to test the waters at lower doses. Besides the vertigo, Biaxin produced one hell of a herx for me, so I am sorry not to be able to tolerate it, but not as sorry as I'd be to have suffered permanent harm to my inner ear. Since you've had tinnitus triggered before, I think its worth mentioning. Maybe the person who was good enough to post a link for me on the otoxic potential of these drugs will do so again. Best, > > I wonder if anybody can comment on whether my taking 500 mg twice > daily of Clarithromycin should be beneficial. It is the standard 500 mg tablets I have ordered, not time release. Not sure if you saw my post to Barb today but already I am feeling the benefit of just over 1 1/2 days of Erythromycin 1000mg plus 2 Quercetin and 2 Bromelain plus my usual supplements. No aching like I have been and generally feel much better. I did one month on the Erythromycin 1000mg earlier this year and did very well with it but have read the Clarithromycin is supposed to be more effective because it is a 2nd generation macrolide (hope I have got that right) and that is why I have ordered it but it is taking forever as it is coming from Mexico. I did spend 2 hours at a local hotel today, swimming in a really warm pool, using the jacuzzi and also the sauna but I didn't feel anything like so well last week when I did the same thing on 2 separate occasions. Last week I was on just 1000mg Penicillin and it didn't do anything for the borrelia I don't think. Of course we are all so different and I think it is this that makes the whole business so damned complicated. Best Wishes Pam
