Guest guest
, Welcome to the group! I'm glad you finally posted. There is a lot of people out there that read each post, but never say a word. My son Brannon was diagnosed with MDS back in Nov 2001. When he was born (4-20-00) no one knew anything was wrong until he started having delays as he got older. His ped would never test him b/c he didn't have the physical traits of a child with DS. Finally he tested him just to see and sure enough the results were MDS. I never heard of MDS until I started searching on the net. I found this group of caring people and I have been here every since. I know you will learn from everyone's experiences and we'll learn from yours. Take care a Mom to Brannon 2 yrs w/MDS and Gabby
Guest guest
Hi, I'm Colleen from Minnesota. I just found out I have cirrhosis. It's from hepatitis C, which I acquired in 1969. I've had 3 liver biopsies, 4 years apart, and just got the results of the 3rd one. The first two biopsies showed stage 1, grade 1 liver disease. Now this last one, which I had a couple of weeks ago, has suddenly progressed to stage 3 - 4, grade 2, with beginning cirrhosis. The only thing that has changed in the past four years is that I went through menopause, I started taking Lexapro, and I started using a corticosteroid salve for psorriasis. I asked my doctor why it would suddenly progress so much, and he said it could very well be because I have fatty liver as well as hepatitis C. I've heard a couple of stories of cirrhosis reversing itself. Anybody else ever heard of that? I start treatment for hepatitis C at the end of October. Doc said to take the time between now and then to begin losing weight and exercising. Colleen abijann <no_reply > wrote: Welcome to all the new people here. This group was started by . Guest guest
The only things I have heard about it reversing itself are related to the early stages. If the underlying cause can be stopped, it can at least be halted. I was drinking an enormous amount of alcohol on a daily basis. It seemed at first that when I quit drinking that I had halted my cirrhosis. I was deemed to have well complicated cirrhosis. I was overjoyed. Once i was off medication for the alcohol withdrawal, I started to feel very foggy, and that gave way to profound confusion. The hepatologist said he doubted that I had encephalopathy, so he took a blood ammonia test. It was high. I then found out I have a medium enlarged spleen. This is from portal hypertension. Another complication, and indicator of advanced cirrhosis. Now I have a diagnosis of pulmonary shunting (hepatopulmonary syndrome) which as I have read is associated with severe liver disease. I hope like hairy heck they can halt your liver disease. If it has not progressed very far, everything I know says it can be reversed. GOOD LUCK. love bobby Re: Welcome Hi, I'm Colleen from Minnesota. I just found out I have cirrhosis. It's from hepatitis C, which I acquired in 1969.
