Hi ,

The first time Noelle's casting doc did both a standing and supine x-ray they were very different.... about 17 degrees supine and 28 degrees standing. I was devastated because we had always gone according to the supine numbers and I felt like the standing x-ray set us back (in my mind). The next time he did both, it looked like less of a difference but he didn't measure the supine one in front of me and I'm still waiting for that report. I can let you know the difference when it is sent to me. Noelle's neuro and the PT evaluator have both said that sometimes kiddos have problems with pronated feet/instep/outstep when they have scoli because they use their feet to compensate for what is going on with their backs. But there could also be other issues as well... A good neuro doc will point you in the right direction... Better than I ever could!!! LOL You are definately doing the right

thing. Good luck and let me know how it goes... I'll be thinking of you! Steph

Hello - Question 1) I would like to know if anyone has an idea of the range ofmeasurement differences with supine and standing x-rays. , age2, has always had x-rays lying down, but recently had one in-caststanding, and I'm wondering how many degrees of difference that mightbe (example, if he's 52 degrees in-cast standing, then maybe he wouldhave been more like 45 degrees lying down...wishful thinking of course).Question 2)By the way, is still not walking at 2 1/2years..he's crouching, very pronated and drags his feet, esp. the onethat is 'longer' b/c of the scoliosis. Does anyone have any similarexperience with this? We're going to have a neurologist examine himb/c of history of neuroblastoma in his spine. We are getting AFOs,orthotics for his feet and we have a walker and go to PT. But, wedon't really have a real answer yet as to why he's doing this, and anyinsight would

be helpful. Thanks! I hope everyone had a nice New Years! I keep up as much as possiblewith posts, but run out of time to see them all., mom to

Our first xrays done at SLC were supine 30 degrees and standing 47 degrees. Quite shocking, especially when you are so used to the supine numbers. Hope that helps. ~Krista

Our numbers have been quite different as well. I wish they would stick with one way, otherwise it is like comparing apples to oranges. I do understand wanting to use the standing- gravity, weight baring etc, but I feel with the supine I know he is not wiggling etc. (plus, let's be honest, they are lower so they sound soo much better)

Early on 's doctor did both. It was very confusing to us and we also said it is like comparing apples to oranges. For example laying down was 10 degrees and standing was 19........we were SO confused. Finally his doctor only ordered the standing xrays. I actually prefer these because you do get a more accurate measurement. It was hard for to stand still at first, but when he was old enough to understand we made a point of making the Xray a BIG deal. He knew before going in IF he was very still and did as the tech instructed him to do, he would get a surprise. It was always something small, but for him it was HUGE! We also started practicing at home the day before.Anyway I would urge your doctor to give you one or the other. Not sure which is really better.

I would thinking standing.......if they are truly standing and someone not holding them there.TashaMommy of twin boys- and 3 1/2 years oldFort Worth, Texas is currently in a brace at night.Casting 14 months.
