Guest guest
, I can't remember if your husband is going to be a transplant candidate or not. I think I remember you posting that you were working on a listing for him. The reason I ask is that hepatopulmonary due to excess NO in the blood stream is underreported according to my hepatologist. Most people have some degree of shunting from this just by having the diagnosis of cirrhosis, he has said to me in the past. It is always referred to in the literature as a " rare complication of cirrhosis " . Patients with severe hypoxia from HPS can get first in line for a liver transplant. But the downside here is that it can worsen, and at some point becomes unresponsive to 100 percent oxygen therapy, and the patient drops off the list because the severe cases don't make it. Penny and I had our oxygen tests and shunt studies around the same time. Mine was discovered because of an abnbormal chest xray which showed abnormal opaque markings indicating possible interstitial lung fibrosis. But the dialated cappiliarys can appear on a chest xray and better yet a CT scan. I believe that the standard procedure at most transplant centers is to investigate any and all Cirrhosis patients who complain of dysapnea. I called for an appointment and when I finally went in , all of my referal paperwork said ---Rule out: hepatopulmonary syndrome--- Hope this helps you. Good luck, and God be with you both. This has affected us alot. I just wonder if we're alone in this. Love,Jill We don't remember days, we remember moments. Guest guest
No offense taken at all.Actually, his hepatologist has not said he can't use viagra. We have not honestly asked him. Ed just assumes it since he wants his heart rate to stay down. You have really clarified it for us and I thank you for that........what you're saying makes so much more since.....and possibly makes Ed a very happy man!!! : ) Love,Jill We don't remember days, we remember moments. Guest guest
For Terry, the dialation of the vessels was the concern. He has had several esophageal varices banded and they develop very quickly. His doctor is concerned that a quickly developing varice will be dialated by the viagra and rupture either in his esophagus or abdomen. He has very little success with the viagra anyway, so it was just not worth the danger to us. For every couple it is different, though. Hugs............ Guest guest
Ed too has had many varices bandings ......more than he cares to remember.....sometimes he has them done for 4-5 months in a row.Sometimmes we get lucky and go 6 months vetween bandings. When his doc bands....it's always 3 to 7 varices done at a time. I feel so bad for him. It's the pits!! He also has a large gastropathy spot in his upper stomach his doc watches.Sometimes it pretty good, other times it's severe. This disease sucks. Love,Jill We don't remember days, we remember moments.
