Here is another perspective.....I'm not so sure that there isn't a legal implication to this issue as well (is Liz on this list?). I work in a real environment, not text book theory. Thankfully, and may it be always the case, I've never been involved in litigation.....however I do personally know 2 LCs that have. To the tune of multi-million dollar lawsuits. Both related to lawsuits surrounding jaundice (1 case developed to kernicterus).

I believe it might be difficult to fully defend the IBCLC who knowingly identified an evident case of marked hypoplasia in a mother who went on to produce insufficient milk, with a resulting poor outcome, and never offered any counseling.

I'm not talking about those cases where she has marginal/slightly hypoplastic appearing breasts.....
