Guest guest
I have greatly decreased my troubles with people asking just a “quick question.” For one thing, my answering machine explains that they should leave a message to schedule a consultation and that if they are looking for “free phone help, please try LLL at…” Secondly, when I get a call, I say “I’d be glad to help you with that. Let me explain how my services work….” I then go on to tell them about consult times, fees, etc. When I get to the end I say “would you like to schedule a consultation?” So, basically, they have to decide whether or not they want a consultation before they have a chance to tell me all of their problems. Now, I do, of course, discuss things for free if it is clear to me that this really is just a quick question. I usually only set up phone consultations with mothers that I have seen in some way already (rental, class, etc )and usually at my suggestion. I have a set fee for this, set up a specific time for the call so I won’t be interrupted, and take their credit card # at the start of the call. Guest guest
I schedule it just like an in person consult. It's rarely immediate. I need to block out the time. Does the mom call you, then she decides about a phone consult and you hang up, she pays and then calls you back at a set up time or is it fairly immediate? Do you have a separate form for phone consults? I'm just curious about the flow. Also, Liz, I learned the line from a wise LC here, if the phone call goes longer than 10 minutes, I say…"it sounds like you could really benefit from a consultation. Would you like to set one up?"
