Hi Mike,

My docs had me on very high doses of nsaids, and I think Voltarin nearly

killed me (that doesn't mean anything for people taking normal doses-- I hope)

For the past 5-6 years I was told I could not take either nsaids or

steroids.Had to use mainly flexeril, which is a bummer. A pharmacist friend

of mine who worked in nursing facilities told me that frequently indocin

suppositories (low dose) were given to older patients who might not

normally tolerate nsaids. Administered that way, a 50 mg. indocin bypasses

the digestive system & liver & is as or more effective than high oral doses

(u still can get gastric reactions tho) My doc was willing to go along with

this, & it helped, except when I got too messed up to remember to take it.

After banging my head against the wall with my doc by phone/fax, I made an

appointment to see him again (just saw him), and I realized that I probably

don't need higher dosage, just halved doses AM & PM. I don't see how he can

say no to that. Boy, will he be surprised.

I do get worried when you report significant gastric symptoms, & your doc

should think about it. There is now a time-release indocin, and I think

Voltaren can be gotten with an ingredient that protects the stomach.

Unfortunately, these are probably costly.

But the last thing you need is GI problems too.

Ken
