Writing down what we eat

Yes, I agree with everyone who says that writing down everything we

eat and drink is an important tool for controlling weight and helping

us eat better stuff in appropriate amounts. I, too, find it very

helpful.

I have a little story I want to share with everyone who is struggling

to lose weight. Several years ago I found myself in an extremely

stressful work situation. Things got so bad that I couldn't sleep,

didn't eat, could barely function. Over the course of a year I lost a

LOT of weight. When I went for my check-up, the doctor was thrilled

with my weight and couldn't say enough about how great my " numbers "

were, but I looked like a walking skeleton and felt lousy.

Eventually I did the only thing I could do and left that job. It was

like getting my life back over night. Then over the course of the

next year and a half I gained all that weight back, plus 15 extra

pounds. My doctor was no longer happy with me, and my blood pressure

was now out of whack. Not good. A few months later I stumbled on this

group, and, thanks to what I've learned from all of you, I am

exercising regularly, eating better (far from perfect, but better),

and am within a few pounds of where I feel I should be.

I'm not sure what the moral of this story is, but I do know for sure

that being fat sucks, but skinny isn't everything, either. Maybe we

just need to keep working toward finding our own happy medium?
