GSE is known as diphenol hydroxybenzene complex and is synthesised from the seeds and pulp of grapefruit. " The extract is 60% citrus extract and 40% glycerine; discovered by Harich;... originally developed as a food supplement and preservative ...but also had a significant antibiotic effect. " Further research seems to " indicate that almost all GSE on the market is contaminated with the synthetic preservative benzalkonium chloride which is a strong antiseptic and fungicide not intended for or approved for human ingestion.According to Merck manual it is found in nappy rash preparations and used in agriculture as an udder wash. Doubt is now cast on whether some of the effectiveness of GSE is due to the benzalkonium chloride - which is not a natural substance. Recommendation is not to use it until further research clears up the areas of doubt. Incidentally I wrote to Higher Nature on this topic asking for clarification of GSE contamination/additions but got no response from the company whatsoever. It would be interesting to see what Biocare had to say. Guest guest
Dear All Good research exists for the use of Cinnamomum zeylanicum and Pistacia lentiscus (mastic) (the former is easier to get hold of than the latter!) in treating Helicobacter pylori.
