thank you all so much for all your recommendations. I am just now

trying to get through the day :) I will see about hitting up freecycle

again, but I have not had much luck with bigger ticket items like

camping gear. My time is coming, I am just going through a rough patch

right now and I'll get on the other side of it. I am concentrating on

saving up for an eye exam and contacts. One thing at a time :)

Though I am going to just stick to car camping and day hiking. It is

good for now. My friends are giving me a tent and I am just tickled

like you would not believe. I have enough camping gear together to go

for a weekend :) and have a great time with just me and Boom the dog.

hugs

in danger of being regarded as a loafer. But if he spends his days as

a speculator, shearing off those woods and making the earth bald

before her time, he is deemed an industrious and enterprising citizen.

Have a blast Lindy!

Jane

Thanks Jane :)

I picked up my tent today and I am really getting excited. I am actually

getting used to the idea of " just " day hiking since I will be able to come

back to camp to a camp fire, my cast iron cookware, and so on. It is what I

am able to do now and I am excited about it. I also picked up a fishing

pole today at a yard sale for $1 :) things will come together ... it just

will take a while.

hugs and thanks

What a nice time to walk ! I love the sunrise. When I go hiking I like to try and put my tent where I can see the eastern sky in the morning.

,

I know what you mean by the heat. Just a word of warning IF you come to New

Orleans prepare for the heat with a high heat index.

I am used to the heat here but it still gets to me at times. We warn non-natives

to not visit the city in the summer time IF they plan to do much outside

walking.

I am about 70 miles from New Orleans, and can second what Gerard has said. It is impossible to overstate what a difference our high humidity makes. How many times I have heard people from other places say "this is like living in a steam bath" A wonderful place from late fall to mid spring, but not a fit place to live the rest of the year without air conditioning. I do all my walking right at sunrise.

I read book (that I also heard about on here--thanks) and reading about him walking in New Orleans and through Texas; whew, how could he stand it? In Texas he walked with his (then) new wife and became annoyed when she walked slow. I thought it was amazing she walked at all. And they were skinny people, lol.

Good morning Elaine and Y'all

I really enjoyed reading the book. "The road unseen" By the time I was half way thru the book I wasn't liking very much because of the way he was treating his wife. He did get better before the end though.

My knees allowed me to walk one mile a day for five days last week. I plan to try 1 1/2 miles per day this week.

Happy day Y'all
