Guest guest Posted April 7, 2003 Report Share Posted April 7, 2003 Dear Ana, I am afraid that I do not have any great suggestions yet about the sex talk with your son, but I am very certain there are folks here who can give you their experience, and will. Our oldest son is just 8 years old, so I am hoping not to get into that for a year or so yet. We have talked to him of course about things he needs to know to help him say no to anything that does not feel right to him, and that he should never be asked to take his clothes off by anyone inappropriately etc. (Just the basic hope of trying to give him some tools to fend off abusive older children and adults). I think you are quite right that you are at the time and age to have this discussion with Gaby though. Once they hit the high school, there is so much for them to learn that we parents would prefer they not have to know about just yet, but then the curiosity and naïve nature leads often to the very things we would like to avoid. So, good luck with it, and I hope you get some great advice. You could consider shopping for a good book to help you discuss this, and discuss what is necessary without an overwhelming amount of information. I know there are some good ones out there. I was born in Titusville, Florida, not to far from Orlando, and alot of my family still live in Mims, Daytona, and Orlando. My Aunt and Uncle worked at the Kennedy Space Center and Mc- before they retired. I keep wishing I could move back to Florida someday. I love it there !! Glad you found our group!
