Guest guest
... I have always said exactly the same thing. Food, we honestly can't live without it. We can live without heroin and similar dangerous drugs, we can live without alcohol, we can live without certain foods, but we cannot live without some sort of sustenance. Unfortunately, we need very little to survive. All we need to eat to survive another 24 hours can fit in our hand... we really don't need anymore or any less. I remember a dietitian (hate that word) telling me that I could eat a handful at every meal. After a few weeks I complained that I wasn't loosing and she asked me how much I was eating... I showed her my hand. Of course, my hand is huge, she had tiny little dietitians hands... no, I had to eat her size hand of food... But, I could have probably survived on it. I am addicted to food, all food except haggis, can't stand haggis. Not much I can do about it, I need it to survive. Anyway... even if they remove my hunger with drugs which they have done, I still want to eat. I eat because I can and I eat from boredom and I eat when I celebrate, you name it, I eat. I need to change my eating habits is all... given time, I do hope to do this. Mel >> Guys,> > I sometimes wonder that maybe if I had brain surgery to remove the hunger centre of my brain, the taste centre and to neutralise the nerves in my mouth/ throat which seem so pleased when I chew and swallow something I adore, then maybe I wouldn't need a band.....> > I totally agree about non-obese people not being the foodies we are. My (female) boss comes to me to ask me about which potatoes are best for potato salad, which is better, pancetta or speck, Jarlsberg or Emmental etc etc. And with all of the food / cooking programs on and glossy cookbooks (should be called "food porn"), is it any wonder that the obesity stats are so high!!!!> > The thing with food addiction though is that we can't just walk away from it like someone going cold-turkey on alcohol, pills or gambling..we still actually need the stuff to survive, so I think this is the hardest addition of all to beat. I for one would definitely take a good chocolate or an amazing cheese anytime over canoodling.> Now I'm drooling...thinking about cheese....mmmm> > >
