Guest guest
I am 45, had one half of thyroid removed 4 years ago (due to small nodule that could not be reached for biopsy). My thyroid levels have measured normal. Six months ago, I noticed a large swelling on remaining thyroid. It is a 3cm nodule that has continued to grow. It feels like it is pressing on my throat. It was tested as benign (FNA) and although the radioactive uptake test showed possible " hot " , the blood test did not show too much thyroid hormone. My endo has started me on .025 Synthroid this week, to go to .05 next week in the hopes that it will give the gland a chance to " rest " and may reduce the size of nodule. My question at this point is, what can I expect with taking this drug? I can't imagine that I had any effects the first day, but I had a very upset stomach and had a terrible time handling the heat. I have a horse, so am used to being out in all weather. But this weekend I was sooo hot that I thought I was going to croak, couldn't get enough to drink. Then last night, my husband asked why my pupils are so small. They were just pinpoints, when everyone else in the same room were much larger. Anyway, there is NO way that this drug could cause any of this, especially in the beginning and with such a miniscule dosage, right? Or does it take some time to get used to it? If the nodule does not reduce , I plan to have the rest of the thyroid removed, and then would have to take this medicine anyway... Thanks for any feedback. Guest guest
Shevawn This is important. You said that your blood tests didn't show abnormal thyroid " hormone " . Was that Free T3, Free T4, or only totals and TSH? Can you post them here withthe ranges to compare? Just started Synthroid > I am 45, had one half of thyroid removed 4 years ago (due to small > nodule that could not be reached for biopsy). My thyroid levels have > measured normal.
