Hi Jo,

Below is what is mentioned on Mercola.com. You can do a search on

peroxide. The article I got this from is at:

http://www.mercola.com/2002/mar/13/hydrogen_peroxide.htm

" It is important to begin treatment as soon as symptoms appear. If

treatment is started promptly effectiveness seems to be in the 80%

range.

We have found remarkable results in curing the flu & cold within 12

to 14 hours when administering a few drops of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide

(H2O2) into each infected ear, (sometimes only one ear is infected)

The H2O2 starts working within 2 to 3 minutes in killing the flu or

cold; there will be some bubbling and in some cases mild stinging

occurs.

Wait until the bubbling & stinging subside (usually 5 to 10 min)

then drain onto tissue and repeat other ear. A bottle of Hydrogen

Peroxide in 3% solution is available at any drug store for a couple

of dollars.

Although this method is perfectly safe for infant/children to use,

the loud bubbling and stinging frightens them, they'll need someone

they trust to put the hp in their ears. (don't get h2o2 in the eyes-

if you do, flush with water) "

Wow, this is amazing, I have never heard of this before.

I have a quick question--my daughter again seems to be struggling with

repeat ear infections. I am curious if this might have a positive effect in

reducing the incidence of ear infection if utilized as a weekly grooming

practice? Actually, I am wondering if using this as a weekly grooming

practice would go a long way towards reducing our incidence of colds and

flus period.

If anyone has any experience using hydrogen peroxide for ear infections I

would love to hear about it.

Thanks, Leann

I tried the H202 thing when I was feeling WELL, because

my kid was sick and I wanted to make sure it didn't hurt.

Here is my impression:

Within a few minutes, I could feel a warmth in my head.

My impression is that the H202 is taken up by capillaries in

the ears and travels ... H202 is made by the body to fight

germs, I've read anyway, and it does soak into the skin.

The next day, I had a case of sinusitis! Now I was ok

before I started. Here is my conjecture: normally your

nose hosts a lot of bacteria, some of them are protective.

The H202 will kill off the good ones and the bad ones,

it would seem. Then, if the good ones don't repopulate,

you are left with the bad ones.

But, I'm just guessing. If you have the flu, the tradeoff

could be worth it. But my experience wasn't a good one!

Or.. maybe it's just the fact you're getting stuff wet in there which

invites infection?.. The instructions for using the Neti pot include drying

the area out by repeated sniffing. I'm not sure how you would sniff your

ears out :-) .. which makes me wonder what swimmers do..

I recall Mercola suggesting this treatment with some strong reservations

about whether there was any reason to believe it was effective. Anyone else

recall this?

Since there are other ways to beat off a cold that seem safer and more

reliably effective, not to mention more comfortable and easier to administer to

a

child, it doesn't seem worth it to me.

Some of these, in my experience, are:

-- some Chinese cold pills my mom gets from her acupuncturest (sorry, don't

know the brand, all the writing is in Chinese!)

-- zinc

-- *lots* of vitamin C

-- exercise, sunshine, sleep

-- abstinence from foods requiring considerable digestion, and plenty of food

including protein that is easy to digest, such as raw meats, egg yolks, and

quality hydrolyzed whey protein, coconut oil, and raw honey

-- *lots* of green and/or black tea

I started coming down with a cold the day before yesterday, and beat it off

before I ever got sick. Lots of people at work and elsewhere were sick. It

started by me sneezing a couple times in the day, which became progressively

more frequent. I took zinc, elderberry extract, and lots of Emergen-C, some

black tea. This produced temporary cessation of the sneezing, but after several

hours of being out and not taking anything, it came back, then began to produce

a runny nose. Got back home, continued the treatment, beat it back again,

and then it disappeared. I practiced undereating with only whey protein,

coconut oil, and raw honey in just-adequate amounts during the day, and then at

night had bacon, beef, sprouted rye bread with butter, by which time I'd gotten

considerably better. I abstained from all the Christmas junk food I'd been

eating the days preceding, as well as milk and potatoes and other hard-to-digest

foods.

I never got a real runny nose, a stuffy nose, a stuffed head, blocked

sinuses, fatigue, and feel great now!

> As a scuba instructor with an immense amount of time underwater

(pool, freshwater and salt) I never did anything. Some students wold

complain about water trapped in their ears. An ENT told me to have

them put a few drops of vinegar in, let sit less than a minute drain

out and flush with alchohol. He said this was basically what was in

the 'swimmer's ear' products. Amy

Interesting.

I happen to have tortuous ear canals that might not allow for proper

drainage. Although, I don't tend to get ear infections. But doctors

always tell me they can't see in there because the canal is all

twisty.

Oh WOW, great suggestion! My husband would have loved that, as he

loves horseradish. He is loving the neti pot though. I think he is

getting addicted! My video should come tomorrow. My grandson is

fighting *something*. He's the one that is asthmatic but has only had

one episode in the past 3 years. Usually everytime *something* starts

it will develope into an attack and he will have to resort to meds.

This is the 3rd time I have kept the *something* at bay by giving him

Air-Power by Enzymatic Therapy, oregano oil caps, zinc lozenges,

nature's plus chewables vit C and of course NT foods. I am hoping to

teach him to use the neti pot! Keep your fingers crossed!
