I mean, if there is nothing that can be done about it, why make such a big deal about it. When my dog died, people made a whole big deal about it and wanted to talk about it. That was the last thing I wanted to do. An expression of empathy would have been sufficient and we could have moved on. Talking about it was like rubbing salt into a fresh wound.
