My child has a parapro that is his shadow all day long in Cobb Co. He loves

her. We didn't even have to ask, they offered it, but we would've asked if

they hadn't brought it up.

Camille,

Gwinnett County can be a difficult school system to petition for services. I

would suggest you consider two things--hiring an education consultant and

attending an IEP workshop.

n Joiner, Autism Consultant and Director of the Model Classroom is offering

a 5-hour IEP workshop this Saturday. If you email me privately I will give you

her number. Another resource person in Feldman, an IEP Specialist and

Education Consultant. Contact her at rfeldman@..., or email me for

her number as well.

Subject: 5 Year-old school placement

My autistic son is almost 5 and will be eligible for kindergarten

next year. We are struggling to figure out what type of school

placement is best for him and what services and support we should

request from the school district. We are in Gwinnett county. Has

anyone recently gone through this same decision that can offer some

advice? How do we decide if a full-day kindergarten is right, or if

we should pull him out early for more ABA? Are people requesting

aides one-on-one for their children? What is the school's response?

For those who have been successful with this request, what did you do?
