Dear Dr McCandless,

Thank-you so much for your detailed response to my questions. We are keen to

follow up on these suggestions if the GABA, taurine and theanine approach

doesn't work but we are concerned about the length of time you can feasibly

keep a child on these prescription drugs. How long would you keep a child on

an anti-convulsant if you thought the child was benefitting? Is there a

shelf-life beyond which it is dangerous to continue? Does this also apply to

SSRIs?

Also if we do decide to try one of these can we continue chelation at the

same time?

If we do decide this is the best route for Jack we know we are unlikely to

find a doctor here in the UK to oversee and support this. Would you

therefore be prepared to do a further consultation with a view to

prescribing if you deem it appropriate?

With many thanks

I copied my reply to to my friend Andy Cutler (whom I consult myself

sometimes) and he informed me I received the wrong information, and that he

was not the one who made that statement, agreeing with me that some kids do

need and benefit from anti-convulsant meds for conditions other than EEG

proof of seizures. I have apologized to him and will check my information

more correctly next time. Dr. JM
