Aromatic Waters in Herbal Practice

Exploring Aromatic Waters With Joe Nasr

Introduction

Aromatic Waters, produced through a highly specific distillation process,

offer the Medical Herbalist a gentle and yet very effective therapeutic

adjunct to treatment. These precious healing waters provide a safe medium

through which essential oils can be prescribed internally to great clinical

advantage.

Furthermore, Aromatic Waters contain a wide spectrum of water-soluble

volatiles, which are simply not present in essential oils. These complement

and balance the activity of the pure essential oil to result in a more

rounded action closer to that of the whole plant, and one that is in harmony

with the body’s own internal fluid make-up.

This day aims to be an enjoyable and informative exploration of aromatic

waters to enhance your practice. The following subjects will be covered:

1. The distillation of Aromatic Waters. Essential elements of the techniques

of distillation. Demonstration of the distillation process.

2. The procedure of making Aromatic Tinctures from Aromatic Waters.

3. Methods of application of Aromatic Waters. Internal and external

4. The medicinal uses and applications of Aromatic Waters in the treatment

of conditions affecting each of the major body systems

The waters covered are: yarrow, angelica, frankincense, chamomile, cinnamon,

bitter orange flower, coriander, cardamom, dill, fennel, hyssop, bay,

lavender, melissa, mint, rose geranium, aniseed, rose, rosemary, sage,

valerian, chaste berry, and ginger.
