Dear Sue,

I concur with what others have said, especially with regard to treating the

liver and general detoxing of lymph, kidneys, blood, bowels and skin. All routes

of elimination need to be addressed to support the clearing. Also nervines and

adaoptogens important to support the person as he/she goes throught the

withdrawal. Excpect episodes of sweating too and advise the person on how to

respond to these. Monitor sleep and do all you can to make sure it is as good as

it can be. I would also give an individual Bach Flower Remedy, but may be also

think of Crab Apple for cleansing Walnut for protection and for transition

states, White Chestnut if their minds can't stop thinking about something, and

whate ever else seems indicated according to their history.

Encourage them to make their own herbal teas, and enjoy them. e.g. peppermint,

yarrow, chamomile, any that taste good and support your tinctures. This gives

the person somehting positive and they engage in the healing. Also consider

aromatherapy: gve a blend f essential oils that the person can smell whenever

they feel anxious or want a drink/smoke or can't relax. ( I put them in a small

bottle that can be carried in the pocket to either smell or rub on the writs or

back of the neck - if they apply the e.o.'s should be diluted. Find ones they

really like so the have a positive effect through initiating a positive,

bodywide cascade of hormone effects via the brain/hypothalamus. Give a daily

simple meditation- breathing routine and encourage the person to do it every

day, several times a day if possible and especially in the beginning.

Alternative nostril breathing, progressive relaxation or chi gong exerses. if

you don't know who to teach these direct them to someone who can.

Also Ear Acupuncture (a la Tindall) is great for additions of any kind. For
