IgA allergies cause rumbling and often bleeding. Do you keep a food diary? Is anything changed? The blood and gas in the case of an IgA allergy is basically due to undigested food, which could also be from lack of enzymes etc. From experience and what I've read, the undigested food is really irritating and very commonly causes bleeding (possibly because of bacterial growth ala SCD). Bleeding CAN be a sign of polyps or cancer, and is a good reason to have an exam. Or it can be allergies or hemmorhoids, or a fissure. -- Heidi

I think I get rumbling/farting more when I drink milk, which sucks, because milk has been very helpful and is very valuable to me. I've noticed wierd things though like sometimes I'll get it in response to potatoes, but only on days I don't drink milk, etc. I think it might have to do with overloading my digestive system and maybe I should space milk out from other foods, which I did last night, and got MUCH less of the symptoms (could be coincidence too). I've noticed, very casually, that I haven't been eating beef as much since it's been getting worse, so I think these digestive issues are due to a severe zinc deficiency (I think, but still haven't gotten tested, that I have pyroluria), which is worse when I don't have as much beef. I guess I should monitor my stool for a couple days and see how it goes? Should probably start a food diary too. So much writing! ;-) Chris

You may or may not have pain with those. I didn't, but the bleeding caused me to get " scoped " just in case. > I think I get rumbling/farting more when I drink milk, which >sucks, because milk has been very helpful and is very valuable to me. I THINK a lot of it has to do with undigested food ... IgA reactions cause food not to get digested fully, which causes bacterial overgrowth and " toxic waste " (heh heh). which is so irritating that it seems to reliably cause bleeding in a number of folks I've talked to. But there could be a lot of reasons for the undigested food. I react to milk, but not kefir, so you might try substituing kefir smoothies for milk and see what happens. >I've noticed, very casually, that I haven't been eating beef as much since >it's been getting worse, so I think these digestive issues are due to a severe >zinc deficiency (I think, but still haven't gotten tested, that I have >pyroluria), which is worse when I don't have as much beef. I sure feel better when I have good beef. I think we really are designed for red meat! " Beef: it's what's for dinner " . >I guess I should monitor my stool for a couple days and see how it goes? >Should probably start a food diary too. So much writing! ;-) A diary is a lot easier to keep on a computer. If you use a spreadsheet you can keep your usual foods on a page and use cut and paste. -- Heidi
Guest guest
Message: 16 Date: Wed, 10 Dec 2003 17:12:14 EST From: ChrisMasterjohn@... Subject: blood in stool (?) I just had a bowel movement, otherwise normal, and randomly took a look at it, and noticed a couple red streaks. It was a somewhat bright red-- I'd expect blood to be a little darker, but then again, the color of blood depends on a lot of things. One non-blood possibility is a food coloring. I've been using an undenatured whey protein supplement which has some sort of red coloring that I think is annato that sometimes appears in the drink (its supposed to blend with other stuff into a yellow), that *could* be it. There was no blood on the toilet paper, and the stool was otherwise high-quality in regards to firmness, sinkage, etc. Does anyone have any thoughts on the liklihood this was blood, and if so, the immediacy of the problem? Chris ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ****************************************************************************** Please excuse me if this has already been answered as I just got back from vacation and I'm trying to read some of the digests. When my DH had an ulcer, the blood in his stool was always very dark, much like when you take Pepto Bismol. If you have been eating BEETS, that could explain RED particles in your stool. Beets are somewhat like corn in that they sometimes pass right thru. Carol K
