I'd also like to hear more responses on this... seems she should be able to

earn whatever money she can, like anyone else, but also receive SSI to

supplement what she makes... This is a ways off for us though...but still

important

to know.

My experience with SSI is as follows.....

Ariel's father and I are divorced. I received SSI for Ariel from the time

she was about 3 years old until January of 2003.They viewed the child support

that I received from her father as her " income " , they allowed a 1/3 and then

took off the rest from the base amount.Which left Ariel with $240.00.

That sounds ridiculous. All of us have to work together on this and something

has to change. It's not fair that they barely have enough money to survive.

People from other countries can come here and live for their housing and

medicl paid for but our people disabilities get money taken away from them if

they

work hard. Something doesn't make sense and I think we all need to work

together to change this.

Ok... after reading Kristy's story... what I want to to know is... do the

kids HAVE to be involved with Social Security??? Cause at this point...I don't

want to have to deal with them at all... now or after he turns 18!

It's sounding almost like they could do BETTER just working on their own!

Ya know...it's already in our heads that will probably have to live

with us for the rest of his life... so between us and any money he can make on

his own...who needs SSI!?!? bah humbug.

In Regards to over payments with SSI benefits...I too received a letter

stating that Ariel owed them money. You can put up a fight and get a

consideration

made out so you dont owe the money back. Basically what we had to do was

prove that we did what we were suppose to do and that the mistake was theirs and

we never owed the money back to them. All in all it was about 250.00.
