Guest guest
Hi , & Welcome to you! Barb Martz, Jonas' Mommy here. We have now gone to the initial meeting with the folks at the intermediate unit about Jonas attending the preschool there when he turns three on November 1st. We have definitely decided that we will be transporting him to the school and not using the van/ bus, as this is too heartbreaking for me just yet, and for Bob too. The school seems like it is going to be good for him. He will receive his therapies there and we are going to let him do the 2 1/2 hour day in the class with other kids, not just take him for his therapies. Like you said, the interaction with the other kids may be really good for him. They have 3 other new children his age with Down syndrome (not mosaic), and I think he will do well with them. We got clearance from his cardiologist due to his heart problem that he was born with. We see the cardiologist in December, and you can imagine what I want for Christmas... a really exceptionally good report! Jonas is exhibiting NO signs of cardiac distress. Quite the contrary, his climbing abilities and physical activity give me a bit of cardiac distress! LOL So, we have our second " more final " meeting with these folks on the 9th of October so they can get him all set up by his birthday. Jonas is increasing in language skills and some new signing is appearing so things are looking good in that respect. He has been using the word " IT " for the past few weeks a lot. He says a line of " Jonas talk " and somewhere in it is the word " IT " . This week however, he seems to have added the phonic SH to his garbled speech, and so you can imagine how much I am loving what seems to be coming out of his mouth as he plays with toys, and generally tears up the living room (his favorite pastime). I will surely be letting you all know how the preschool is going once we start. Luckily for us and for Jonas, a sweet woman from our church family who has been carrying Jonas around the church and loving him up since he was just 5 pounds works at the preschool, and he will be in her room! He already loves her and is used to her holding him and so that will make transition easier on us all. Welcome to you again, a joy to have you here ! Hugs and kisses to ! Blessings, Barb Martz Mom to Jonas 2y. 10m. (MDS) & 8 Re: pre-school I am directing this to Tina and Barb and hello to everyone else. I never actually introduced myself to the group but I am so happy that I found you all!!!! My name is Ross. My son just turned 2 on July 30th. He was diaagnosed MDS in May. He has been receiving early intervention since he was one (physical therapy and a teacher). We just started speech therapy last month and next month occupational therapy. I'm taking all the therapy I can get. How is Krissy with her speech? This is definately 's biggest hurdle at this point. When will Krissy turn 3. We do not have the public pre school available until they turn 3. I was actually thinking of sending him to a private pre-school this fall because I think the interaction with kids his age is so helpful. Anyway, no decisions are ever easy. I know that whatever Barb you decide to do with Jonas will be right for him. I am very interested to hear how Krissy and Jonas make out with their new endeavors. My thoughts and prayers are with you!!!! Good Luck.... I am sure they will do great!!!!!! Mom to age6, age 2 MDS and Kirk age 4 1/2 mos. Guest guest
Hi Barb, That is great news about Jonas. I am sure you are enjoying his new sounds... SH and IT. That just cracked me up. You must enter that in his baby book as his first word (ha ha). is big on SH also so he may follow suit!!! We just had 's IFSP review and I was able to get alot more services. Speech, occupational, physical, and the teacher each once a week. So 4x a week he will have someone. I am still going to try for even more speech if possible but I am happy with the increase. has been making alot more sounds...very promising GOOD LUCK with Jonas. Let me know how he is doing. That is so great that you have someone you know in class with him. That will make it much easier for you to adjust. Hope all is well. I read your husband is looking for a job. I hope that is going well. I,ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. LOL
