Guest guest
This particular thread, Seems to re-appear time & time again, Original Sin seems to have been the scape-goat for all kinds of self-loathing---- " Let the dead bury their dead " --Yet this dead-horse is being dug up again and again----Why? This is one of the reasons that I left the Church, the legacy of the 'Church Fathers. " From St. , to St. Augustine, and to Jerome and Tertullian. St Augustine's harse doctrine paints a terrible picture of an implacable God: " Banished from paradise after his sin, Adam bound his offspring also with the pentalty of death and damnation, that offspring which by sinning he corrupted in himself, as a root; so that whatever the progeny was born ( thru carnal conupiscence, by which a fitting retrobution for his disobedience, was bestowed upon him ) from himself and his spouse---who was the cause of his sin and the companion of his damnation-- would drag through the ages the burden of Origional Sin, by which it would itself be dragged through manifold errors and sorrows, down to that final and never-ending torment with the rebel angels--- So the matter stood; the dammed lump of humanity was lying prostrate, no, was wallowing in evil, it was falling headlong from one wickedness to another; & joined to the faction of the angels who had sinned, it was paying the most righteous penalty of its impious treason. " Augustine left us with a difficult heritage, A religion which teaches men and women to regard their humanity as chronically flawed and can alienate them from themselves. And nowhere is this aliienation more evident than in the denigration of sexuality in general and women in particular. Even though Christianity had origionally been quite positive for women, it had already developed a misognistic tenency in the West by the time of Augustine. The letters of Jerome teemed with loathing of the female which occasionally sounds deranged. Tertullian had castigated women as evil temptresses, as an eternal danger to mankind. But this condition did not account for the degragation in India, concerning the Caste System, or the Untouchables, which Gandi gave so much to change. Yet today in modern times, India is strong in technology, but a great portion of their humanity still lives in the 'Dark-Ages.' And it dosnt account for the Modern Muslim Religion, where women are kept in virtual slavery. So perhaps its time to wake-up and smell the Roses. Regards S.C. Any religion or sect which inhibits the spiritual growth or individuation of a person should be abandoned. Maybe you didn't need to hear this from me, but I just wanted to affirm your statement.
