Guest guest
Griselda raises a few meds questions. Concerning Wellbutrin, it is a *dopamine* reuptake inhibitor, quite different from those that work on Seratonin. Its very low on side effects, although among those that experience them, they can include seizures. According to a doctor of mine, there is some relationship in response to buproprion (Wellbutrin) and Buspar. About 5HTP, it is a derivative of L-tryptophane, which was pulled off the market by the FDA with, what Dr. Sahelian describes a very limited & poorly supported reasons. However it action and qualities are quite different from L-tryptophan, it is regarded as relatively benign, and now used in a lot of natural formulations, particularly weight-control right now. It appears to ease anxiety and increase availability of natural serotonin, which makes people feel happier. From those I know who have used it in weight control products, it does seem helpful. We do have a professional resource person on meds & natural substances, but he's a bit tied up in a new hospital position at the moment, & hasn't gotten registered on the list yet. He has indicated willingness to help, & said its ok to cc him by email at ggwos@..., which I'm doing with this note. He is Dr. Gordon Gwosdow, Pharm.D.
