Guest guest
Well, the interview was going good till the reporter went to turn the lens to something else...LOL....then it fell off (the lens). We tried to get it back on but it was not cooperating....so interview is scheduled for next Tuesday, and she is bringing a photographer with her.........Take Care, Connie At least the lens falling off, got me where I was not so nervous. She (reporter) is very nice and down to earth. __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Is it television or newspaper? I'm assuming it's a local newscast. If so, don't let them rush you, request to make statements on camera that go beyond their general questions and ask that they air it during a book...like May Sweeps which will be starting soon. Don't let them air it during the 11 o'clock time slot, ask for six. Be sure to ask for promo time leading up to the story, and request a follow up story be done in a few months---preferably during the next book. Don't let it be some short, rushed, ambiguous segment. Ask the reporter a lot of questions about the length of the news package and how the station will air it. If it's just you that's being interviewed, ask that more people become involved. The more statements made on camera, the better. Also ask to see the script before it's produced and the final edited package before it airs. > We'll be doing a news interview with a local reporter about the > thimerosal/autism link. Guest guest
Good luck! Is the tv or paper? If paper see if you can proof the copy first, sometime mistake or misunderstanding can be cleared up before they are printed. If tv, I hope you are able to tell you story without them turing around and intervewing the local doctor to discredit everything you just said. Find out in advance if they are planning to interveiw someone else who may have a different feeling than yours. I am not sure what you can do, other than be prepared to back up your story with facts and a word or two from your doctor. In my case the tv did a great story on mercury poison, and ABA then cut the entire part about mercury, airing only the ABA end. I was so mad! Smile, be positive, know your facts, and stick to your guns. Let us know how it goes! Guest guest
Never done that but have talked to the news. Anticipate their questions and have answers ready before hand. Always come back to one or two sentences that you want to drive home.
Guest guest
DEAR Jo, I'm not from your area, but I was wondering if any New York, New Jersey stations would be picking up on your news story. If so, what stations? I would be very interested to see that . Dorothy
Guest guest
Something you can do is ask to hear her voice-over recording of the segment over the phone before it airs. You also may want to ask if this is going to air at the very end of May (if so, request that it be aired earlier in the month.) Also, I don't believe they will put up (supers) info about your organization (phone, e-mail), but you can request the anchor give the info out directly after the segment. Hope that helps. > Thanks everyone for all the great information. My interview is set for > tomorrow and here are some of the answers she gave me to the following > questions. Guest guest
Hello all! I just wanted to say hi and let you know that I was interviewed for a piece on plastic surgery that will air this Thursday on a local news station (Memphis.) For anyone in the area, it's channel 5 news at 10pm. I think Dr. Shanklin was also interviewed. Thought you might like to know. Hopefully, it will be good and will reach a lot of people. They are going to plug my website too, so people can go there for more information. Take care! Colleen
