Carolina Beth: How frustrating. Have you talked to folks at a research hospital

like University of Virginia or University of North Carolina? Some doctors out in

the field just don't keep up so you have to go to doctors who more up to date.

Carolina Beth, I agree with you...it's famialial...and the lump is defintely there...what are the docs waiting on? I used to have urinary tract infections...constantly...after my 3rd child was born...I was on antibiodics constantly...older, wiser women kept telling me all I needed was a bladder suspension...but every doctor I went to just put me on meds. I had to go to the bathroom every 30 minutes! I went to urologists...obgyn's, gp's...so many doctors. Finally, I went to an "OLD" doctor who was probably 70 years old. (after 10 years of suffering) He listened...he scheduled me for a bladder suspension...when he got in there he said it was a MESS...I had a anterior and posterior repair...and I have NEVER had a problem since. The only restriction I have is cann never jog or do aerobics...that was

when I seriously began walking...because I had always been a jogger before. I hope you can find a wise doctor who will listen...and use his experience along with the textbook...to give you some relief from your thyroid condition. Oh, and Gerard pointed out to me you were NOT Caroline Beth...but Carolina Beth, to distinguish from me, Beth...Not to worry...I called him Gerald for 2 weeks...He gingerly had to set me straight on that too! Beth wrote: Nah, just Beth usually. I thought I'd sign withCarolina Beth to not get confused with you! :-) Myname is actually Lynne. I have a thyroid goiter (huge lump on the thyroid). Mybloodwork is always normal despite going back andforth between under and over active symptoms and thebulge to my neck. My mother, her mother, and two of mymother's half sisters all have a goiter.

All are onSynthroid to keep it minimal and alleviate theirsymptoms. > > PS Where in which Carolina. I was born in NC and> > my daughter went to college in SC

No, I haven't. We just moved home a couple months ago.

No..dang. 7 months now LOL. I've pretty much lost all

respect for medicine right now. I have no desire to

hear yet again that it's really just in my head and

I'm really fine. I know I should be more aggressive

about it, but after so long, I've just developed a

serious case of " why bother since nobody else is

taking it seriously, why should I? "

I too am a lurker and have to agree with . You have to be in

control and the best way is to arm yourself with as much information

as you can. I have been dealing with an underactive thyroid for

years and a lack of what I feel is proper medical attention. My

tests all came back within the normal range however there has been

no change physically. I let it go thinking if he wasn't too worried

neither should I. But I should have been. Now I'm dealing with a

host of issues from ankle swelling, lack of energy, extreme weight

gain, feeling cold most of the time just to name a few. I want to an

Anti-aging seminar this past Tuesday and one of the speakers who

happened to be a dr mentioned if your have thyroid issues to get the

book " Thyroid Power " by Shames and Shames. My point is get as musch

knowledge as you can and take the information with you. If they

don't take you seriously and what to work with you to make you feel

better then keep looking to you do find one.

I used to be always cold, and my doctors always wondered if it was my

thyroid and so did I when i started gaining weight, but then I looked

back on my diet as a kid and realized I never got enough calories. my

family was always on a shoestring food budget and my mom never

realized that i got about 3 times as much excercise as my sister &

brother. I hated most of her cooking too, so even if i was hungry, i

only ate enough to appease her and then bailed from the table.

it's weird what you find out in life so much later,

Good morning Dawn and Y'all

Speaking of staying informed. I urge each of you to read this book.
