Guest guest
For all of you that are worried about teaching your children to take pills, try teaching them to swallow m & ms (or skittles if you are GCF). I was about 8 when my Mom taught me this way and my son Nicolas was only 4. It has made a huge difference to be able to have him swallow pills and not have to TRY and force liquid (we would usually have to buy twice as much as we needed) or disguise powder. One caution - don't try to give an uncoated pill that might taste bad!! You can buy empty gelatin capsules at pharmacies and health food stores and then put the pill in it (crush it if you need to). Nicolas takes phenergan sometimes to help him sleep and we accidently gave him one that was uncoated and tasted horrible. It was days and days before we could get him to take his pills without worrying that they migh taste bad! I hope this helps. Stacey mom to Nicolas, 5, (high-functioning autistic) and Liliana, 10 months, (hopefully NT)
