Subject: d4t

YOU WROTE:

Hi Guys, I need your advice. I had 6 Newfill injections that I finished

up in January and I looked great. Now, 3 months later the facial wasting

has returned and I have already lost the fat in my temples. I am

currently on Amprenavir & Kaletra (pi's), Viread, Epivir and the lovely

D4T. (also on the testosterone patch) My viral load is undetectable and

T's at 300. I want to stop taking D4t outright. I know that it is hard

to regain the fat in your face once you stop the D4T, but what what

stopping it before you finish losing the facial fat? Has anyone tried

that yet? I spent $3,000 on Newfill and am not anxious to go back the

way I was. I will stop taking it to save my face if that is what it

takes. My doctor wanted to switch me to AZT but I refused. Thanks for

any and all input. B.C.

MY RESPONSE:

Hi BC, I was on D4T for 5 years, and lost all facial fat -- temple,

upper cheek, lower cheek. A year after I was off D4T no returned. I

have not heard of anyone's facial fat returning once it is gone. There

are some people who have lost facial fat but from other reasons, and it

returns (no different than any weight los/weight gain cycle). I opted

out of New Fill for the very reason you speak -- it does not last. I've

got the bio-alcamid in my face now and in 18 months, it is still holding,

so I guess it really is permanent.

http://www.houstonbuyersclub.com/ellen.html has photos posted. I have

gotten off all those main lipo causing drugs (now on Viread, 3TC and

Ziagen) and there has been not a bit of fat return. I'm also taking

some supplements that I think will help keep the V/L down (and, I'm in my

3rd year of 7 days on meds and 7 days off meds) -- I'm trying everything

I can think of to reduce the drugs that turned me into a corpse. ellen
