Guest guest
Hi...Probably, someone knows exactly, but taking the word apart, glyco=sugar, and stearin is some type of stearic acid. That's about all I know, HTH, Cheryl Glycostearin > Could anyone please tell me what this is? Guest guest
, Just as an after thought, and to make sure I understand the monograph you sent regarding glycostearine ... I understand the information to say that glycostearine is an alcohol (distillate?) of stearic acid. In cosmetics it is used as a surfactant, and an elmusifying agent. Is that close? Guest guest
Sue, The material is an ester, which is the product of the reaction of an alcohol, polyethylene glycol and an acid, stearic acid. The alcohol is a polymer in that it has a repeating group and the resulting product is an emulsifying agent. It may not be the primary emulsifier in a system but contributes to the overall system.
