Hi Libby,

I'm on day 16 of optifast, it does get (only just) slightly easier, but you still get hungry, no matter what. I have had some windows of not feeling hunger, but if I let it go too long, I end up with nausea and weirdness, because of my low-blood sugar/ insulin resistant issues. I don't know whether I'm doing it strictly by the book either, but I don't care, because I'm doing it for longer than I've been asked, so any minor indiscretions should be lost anyway. I do have at least one coffee and tea with skim milk per day, and am contemplating a lovely steak/chips/ gravy / salad last supper, or a roast leg of lamb (not to myself). I don't care what they think- they just won't know!

Don't forget your benefibre, and drinks between meals- otherwise you'll get really backed up. I've tried to find a low-carb protein I can add to the drinks to top me up and keep me full without blowing everything out of the water- I'm still trying to source some Beneprotein, but to no luck, but have instead found some powder by Nature's Way at Woollies in the vitamin section, called "Instant Natural Protein" (in a green 375gram tin) , it has no added sugar, starch, fat or carb (less than 1 g carb to 100 grams weight), and I add a heaped teaspoon or two to each shake before I whizz it all together. It's chalky and and a bit ick but it does keep me fuller for longer. I also have the shake only for brekkie, a bar at work for lunch (more conveneint than taking a shaker in to work) and the dessert as part of my dinner.

I have also found that a couple of Double D sugar-free lollies/ Jols get me through my sweet craving zone after dinner, where I used to eat some bickies with a cuppa. I'm getting really bored with the veg, but it's better than nothing. Try celery and salsa - Pyretta suggested that to me, and it's a good filler.

It is hard, but just take one day at a time, one meal at a time, stay busy and give yourself other little rewards instead of foodie ones (like some new bras..or a new lippy or some little bling.). I go to bed early when I'm really hungry in the evening- last night I was craving roast spuds and gravy, but just had to settle with sleep.

There's no getting around it, it is bloody tough, but I've lost 5kg now in 2 weeks, and the thought that these kilos will never come back, along with the thought of healing a big incision instead of five or so little ones, keeps me going. At least we're doing this with an end goal in mind- it will end, and we'll be banded.

If I can do it Libby, then anyone can, I'm the weakest person I know when it comes to resisting food. One day at a time..... and don't forget, if you fall off the wagon, then don't worry, just get back on again. If we were meant to be robots, we wouldn't be where we are now, but then we wouldn't have so much fun together either.

Lots of hugs to you (and Ronnii)

(the constantly hungry) (Ashbury)
