No. 3: Dermatology

and an approach to the menopause

with Dr Jean-Claude Lapraz

Friday 13 February to Sunday 15 February 2004

In January 2001 Dr Jean-Claude Lapraz gave the first in a series of training

seminars on clinical phytotherapy at Middlesex University. Those fortunate

enough to attend that seminar (which dealt with infectious diseases,

particularly respiratory pathology) and its follow-up (on upper GI tract

pathology) have eagerly awaited the next seminar in the series. This third

seminar is devoted to dermatology, a subject of crucial interest to

phytotherapists.

The work of Dr Lapraz and his colleague Dr Christian Duraffourd centres on the

all-important role of the endocrine and autonomic nervous system in the

maintenance of health and development of disease. With 25 years' experience in

this field, Duraffourd and Lapraz have pioneered radical new approaches to

disorders ranging from herpes to cancer. From the outset they employed

principally herbal medicines, because, in Duraffourd's words, 'the multiplicity,

ubiquity, and polymorphous nature of the agents that disrupt normal

physiological processes are perfectly matched by the plurality and polymorphism

of the pharmacological activities of medicinal plants'. In recent years

Duraffourd and Lapraz have developed the Functional Biology Index: a series of

indexes, derived from a simple blood test, that give vital information about the

terrain of an individual patient.

This seminar will deal with the endobiogenic treatment of the main skin

disorders: acne, psoriasis, eczema, herpes, and shingles. Dr Lapraz will also

outline his approach to menopausal problems.

The seminar is open to medical herbalists (members of NIMH or CPP), GPs, and

other appropriately qualified practitioners. Students of phytotherapy or

medicine are also welcome. Numbers are strictly limited and early booking is

advised.

The seminar will be held at the Lecture Theatre, Furnival Building, Middlesex

University, 10 Highgate Hill, London N19 5NF. It will run from 1 p.m. on Friday

13 February to 12.30 p.m. on Sunday 15 February 2004. Lunch will be served

during the Saturday session.

Fees for the seminar are: Practitioners¾£160; members of NIMH/CPP¾£120;

students¾£80. Cheques, made payable to 'Phytotherapy Resources', should be sent

to Colin Nicholls, 38 Westwood Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent TN4 8TP; tel. 01892

547628/07802 494310; e-mail: cnicholls@.... Bookings can only be

confirmed upon receipt of the full fee.

For those of us who live far away and cannot attend, would it be possible to

purchase the contents of the course, if printed?
