I just want to make sure you are offering him fresh

banana! I know there are some babies that won't eat

fresh banana :o) but there is a huge difference

between canned prepared babyfoods and fresh. Often at

our local La Leche LEague meetings when we have the

toddler meeting we pass around a paper plate and

plastic spoons to all the moms. On the plate are 4

samples of babyfood: canned mashed banana and a

freshly pureéd banana, steamed frozen peas, pureéd and

babyfood strained peas. All the mommies are encouraged

to sample each offering and guess which is the

babyfood and which is fresh, also to indicate their

+There is no contest!! A babyfood mill costs about

$10-$20 dollars and you can use it anywhere, or use

your blender at home.

Personally, since we breastfeed, I don't worry too

much about feeding them until they are eating off my

plate. ;o)

Meg and Sally,

I'm planning to try fermenting some fruit this week.

Last weeks batch of raw milk that was separating for

cream cheese and whey got some tiny fruit flies in the

jar (I don't know how they got between the lid and the

jar, but they did!) and had pink mold on top of the

cream- so I threw it out. This weeks seems to be

coming along nicely and hopefully will be soured by

tomorrow evening. I'm planning to try fresh orgainc

pears. Also I've been making popsicles for my kids out

fresh apple juice and apple-grapefruit juice and I was

wondering if the pulp would be worth fermenting. What

do you think? Also if my fruit drink does turn out I

was wondering if it would hurt to freeze it (I was

thinking it would be cheaper than all juice popsicles

and maybe healthier as well.)

I've forgotten who is having trouble getting their

kids to take cod liver oil- I just wanted to share my

experience. My mom took vitamins throughout my

childhood and she gave us kids multi-vitamins. Not

everyday but often we would also get capsules of E and

A & D from her. (I guess the E was probably wheatgerm

oil) It was a lot of fun to chew on then until the

liquid popped out- the liquid never tasted great but I

guess it's an acquired taste? And the capsules are

kind of sweetish to chew on after the oil is gone. :o)

My almost two year old seems to feel the same- she

loves the cod liver oil capsules and I have to keep

them in the fridge so that I can be certain she isn't

getting into them and overdosing. My four year old

isn't crazy about them but will take them once a week

or so.

Love in Christ,

Alison
