Guest guest
Alison, Thanks for the reply! Yes I have tried fresh mashed with a fork bananas and he WILL NOT eat them. This is very frustrating to me because he does not eat much and I only offer some type of a meal 1 time a day because if I offer it more often he won't drink enough milk. But he is growing fine and the dr says not to worry about his meals and let him lead when he is ready. Unfortunately I had to stop breastfeeding because he was not getting enough from me. My mother-in-law is a lactation consultant and I was doing everything right! But I am diabetic and so do not absorb my own vitamins very well so he wasn't getting many. I agree with the making your own baby food thing I just had not had the time when he is only eating about 3 tablespoons a day. maybe a food mill would make this easier. I'll take a look! Guest guest
It won't hurt to freeze the drinks. I've tried using pulp and you get more of a vinegary flavor because of the lack of natural sugar.. I would add some honey if you try that (1/4 c. per qt.). I usually use 2nds as far as the fruit goes.. i.e., deer apples and grapes that are mushy but not moldy (though I'm not sure if mold would matter?). I put all the ones that are total mush and all the trimmings and cores in the " juice only " bucket. I mash these down with a potato masher to bring the juice up over the top after adding whey (1/4 c. per qt.) I sometimes also add a little honey if the fruit is tart (not necessary for gushy pears). Then I have another bucket that is for fruit that is in 1/2 way decent shape (we will drink the juice from this bucket as well, but it will be more watery). I use the fruit blended with a little honey for sauces, marmalades, and pie filling. Meg

Guest guest
Someone on the list suggested www.vitaminlife.com and that is where I got it. It was only 13.00 something for a quart. I have a question on the fruit drinks. We had our first try at drinking it last night and we all really enjoyed it. I have a gallon of it on my counter yet right now. It has been out for four days. Should I drain the apple pulp out and put it in the fridge until we drink it again? I can't leave it out can I? Guest guest
I keep mine in the fridge once it's where I like it.. it'll continue to ferment more the longer you leave it out.. may not be a bad thing.
