i am writing to ask for your best links to help a soon to be adoptive

mother of a newborn decide whether to accept donor milk (not banked

milk), regarding the safety and accessibility. i am aware of the

" just one bottle article " and LOVE it, but since it talks about the

detrimental effects of one bottle of formula, and she will likely need

to use some formula, i think it would be more upsetting than helpful,

perhaps. unless someone knows of a readily available source for donor

milk? i haven't been in practice for a few years, so i'd love any up

to date resources i might not be aware of!

induced lactation is not an option, but she does want to use an SNS or

lactaid at the breast and is currently deciding about donor milk. she

is hoping the birthmom will provide some milk, but that isn't yet

clear. i'd also appreciate links to good, non pharma sources of info

about artificial baby milk choices - why not to use powdered, which

pre-mixed to stay away from, etc.

or, alternatively, i know many NDs prescribe home made goat milk

formula and i am not clear on whether this is adequate for full

feeding, or just advisable for supplementation of breastfed babies, in

place of formula, when supplement is needed. also, this is for a

family member, so my advice doesn't need to be textbook/scope of

practice specific, but i'd like good information, obviously! :)

thanks!

Hello Lyla,She may like to talk to the moms who donated and/or who used donor milk directly. This is a nation-wide organisation's MD branch FB page which I share with the mommies in similar situation. They do like to hear other moms stories.Good luck,Annhttp://www.facebook.com/HM4HBMD?installed=1 & fb_page_id=202932189718934Ann Faust, MBChB, BA (Hons), IBCLC, RLC
