Subject: Preparing for treatment

Hi all,

I had to have 9 tubes of blood taken from me this morning for tests

to prepare me for my appointment with my hepatologist next Monday. I

don't know if they will start me on the treatment that day or what,

but I will be shown how to give myself the shots. Giving myself the

injections isn't what I worry about the most, although I think it

will be hard at first. The side effects are what I am the most

affraid of.

I had to take my dog to the vet today for her shots and recheck. She

had pancreatitis a few weeks ago. The vet wants us to take her to an

ophthalmologist to check on her right eye. She has a cataract like

thing on it that is common in Shih Tzu's, but he said it has edema in

it, and it is getting bigger and looks worse than it used to. He

said he usually treats them himself, but he doesn't feel comfortable

treating hers, so he thinks we should have it checked out by a

specialist. She can't see right there where that glob is, but we

knew that already. Of course, I had him write the name of the eye

thing she has on a piece of paper for me so I can research it more.

It's called pigmentary keratitis. I saw something about it online

and it says they use the same immunosuppressant drug I take to

prevent my body from rejecting my liver to treat the eye thing that

my dog has. It's drops, though, and only has about .03% of the drug

in it. Isn't that weird? That just figures, though, because she

does everything I do anyway...lol.

Speaking of animals, I told you all about a horse rescue near me that

I wanted to volunteer my help to. I decided to make a page on the

web to help them get donations. It is so incredible what they are

doing to save the abandoned and abused horses. They are in desperate

need of donations of money, hay, grain, and machinery. They go

through over 130 small bales of hay per week. They have over 40

horses. The owner was thrilled when I showed her the pledge page for

donations I made for them. If you don't mind, I would like to give a

link to the page I made to collect donations for them. It would be

so great if anyone would be able to donate something. The owners of

the rescue use their own money, and they are both on social security

disability. The link is:

http://www.fundable.com/groupactions/groupaction.2008-09-

I hope everyone is doing as well as can be expected.

dadgum...9 tubes? Did they leave you enough to go home with. :)

How did you make out after the storm. Have you got power yet? Unless you are on

a laptop computer thats a dumb question, I reckon? After Ivan I went (IIRC) 17

days without juice. I was on the verge of pulling my twigs out, nearly went

insane.

Take care and good luck with you and and your puppy.

I had at least that much if not more when I was sent for my first

evaluation. I asked the same thing. I was told that it isn't as much blood

as it looked like because the tubes are rather thick and some of them also

have some chemicals in them to help with the testing. Jan H

I have given as much as 8 tubes slam full. They seem to get alot on those

metabolic panels. I look on my lab request and if I have to give a bunch I'll

take a little bottle of apple juice with me and after the drawing I'll sit back

down in the waiting room and sip on the juice for a few minutes (10-15) and I

have never had a problem. I say 8...it could have been a few more? I turn my

head when giving blood. I can watch anything medical except someone getting a

shot, especially your's truly.

Now that you mention it, maybe I have had that many tubes of blood

taken at once before. I know during my transplant evaluation they

took a lot of tubes from me then too, but I don't remember how many.

That was last year from August to October. Now since the transplant,

I usually only have about 2 or 3 tubes of blood taken every week, so

the 9 before starting the Hep C treatment seemed like an awful lot.

They are testing everything, including all the tests for Hep C.
