Guest guest
Hi Michele- We use Jarrow IP6, mostly because it's available locally. If you try it, I hope you will post about the results. Good luck - IP6 has virtually eliminated my son's OCD. p.s. be sure to give the IP6 on an empty stomach! > > > We tried 5HTP and saw no results at all. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks, I have been trying to find information on IP6. Some of the things I have read indicate it chelates metals. I wonder if that is part of what's happening with eliminating OC behaviors. Thanks again > > > > We tried 5HTP and saw no results at all. Guest guest
I started my son Brett on 5HTP about 10 days ago, and added in IP6 (Cell Forte' from Beyond-a-Century) on Friday. OCD and scripting are his biggest issues right now, and we're trying to see if we can improve these behaviors without going to prescription meds. We saw a very slight decrease in OCD, but no reduced scripting with just the 5HTP. Since adding the IP6 (800mg 2x/day), we had another slight OCD decrease and a slight decrease in scripting, so we're hoping that we're onto something here. That's the good news. However, Brett has been more irritable at home, and got awful reports from his teachers and therapists yesterday. At school, the teachers reported that he was " sad " and hitting himself frequently (something he does only when really upset). He also got in trouble at school for the first time in his life and had to sit in the " thinking chair " because he kept telling his teachers to " shut up " . I was shocked, because I have never heard him say that in his life! (I also can't imagine where he got that from, because my other kids aren't allowed to say that, either.) At OT and speech after school, he had a " fantastic " OT session. However, his speech therapist said that he told her to " shut up " 4-5 times during her session! She was shocked, too, since she'd never heard him say that and it is entirely out of character for him. (She has worked with him for a couple of years, and knows him very well.) HELP! Could this be from the new supplements? Has anyone else noticed an increase in irritability with them? Should I cut back? OR, should I be happy that he is using a new unscripted phrase appropriately, even if it is one I don't want him using? Of course, I told Brett last night that " shut up " is not a nice thing to say, and I don't want him to say it anymore, and that " be quiet " is a much nicer alternative. If one of my NT kids ever said " shut up " to a teacher, I'd wash their mouths out with soap! Any other ideas on handling the discipline issue here? Thanks for your insights! (Ain't parenting FUN?) ~Sue

Guest guest
Cheryl, My IP6 says give on empty stomach so with am aminos makes sense. I give Mit his 5htp at supper time....it makes some kids sleepy. Sorry to hear Clayton's not doing so well right now. Mit is up and down almost daily (as usual).
