For those of you not yet diagnosed with fibro but think they may have it, my advice is to NOT tell your doctor. Since the best way to treat fibro is through diet, exercise and supplementation, a diagnosis will not help you, in fact it could hurt you. I was diagnosed with fibro over 10 years ago and have been symptom free for close to 6 years. To this day, I cannot find any health insurance carrier that will cover me except for the high risk pool in my state. My medical insurance is more costly than my entire family’s. Fibro is considered to be like cancer in determining coverage, because there is no known cure. A diagnosis of fibro will follow you.

That is soooooo true . . .

Some years ago, someone showed up at work offering

disablity policies (I was contracting) . .

They couldn't get out of there fast enough when I told

them I had FM.

I agree totally. I had it in my health records that I was diagnosed

with fms and when my husband died and I tried to get private

insurance I was turned down. I ended up having to keep COBRA where

my husband worked and it was very expensive. Just as it was about

to expire (3 years) I remarried and am now covered under my

husband's policy. You are right on. There is no conventional

treatment and being diagnosed will only hurt you. If the doctor is

trying to find out what is wrong with you and throws out a fms

diagnosis, insist he doesn't write it down in your charts as it is

hard to prove anyway.
