Guest guest
Dear Mr. Fumento: I have no idea who you are; however, I have just read the article that you wrote. Are you calling us liars? We have done our own research. Millions of women cannot be wrong. These devices rupture at a very high rate. I have had two sets of silicone breast implants, and both were grossly ruptured. My life has been destroyed because of people like you. I'm a lady, a mother and a good wife. I have lost all quality of life because a plastic surgeon lied to me in 1974. This is one of the biggest cover-ups ever, and we know that you know the truth. Please, tell me where you got your information? You have been misinformed. Did you know that people like you who write these unrelenting articles regarding the safty of breast implants are destroying more lives. The IOM did not allow many very good researchers to be part of their study. They knew that if they allowed some one like Dr. Harbut's study to be viewed it could cause some good researchers to have questioned the report. This is all about money and power. Are you in this for money or the power? I would love to have you in our home for just one day. We would treat you with kindness; however, we would educate you on the real problems with breast implants. Have you read my story? Please read my story at http://www.humanticsfoundation.com/lea.html , my story gets worse. I will continue to write my story as soon as I'm well enough. If you are interested I have all of my original medical records from 1974. Please read the article below and see if you could add something that might help us to understand why you have taken sides with the plastic surgeons and the manufacturers. We need people like you on our side because you seem to be extreamily influential. I wish that I had your power....Lea ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~```` Dear Sir or Madam. I would like to comment on your recent article on breast implants entitled "Breast implants are back as fears subside". After more than ten years of fighting the manufacturers who make breast implants and the plastic surgeons who insert them, I have realized that there are two self-evident truths surrounding this controversy. One is that there is no such thing as a safe implant; the other is that plastic surgeons continue to deceive prospective clients. The comments made by Dr. Walter s are just another example of why plastic surgeons are considered by their implant victims to be the used-car salesmen of the medical community. s says that there have been 17 studies that satisfy him that breast implants are safe. He doesn't, of course, mention that there have been--over many years--literally hundreds of peer-reviewed studies that damn them for what they really are--deadly devices! s also forgot to tell your readers that the 17 studies were all bought and paid for by the manufacturers of breast implants; moreover, he ignores that these studies were all done after the early 1990s when the manufacturers and plastic surgeons went into panic damage control! In addition, if s was one of the authors of the IOM's "Safety of Silicone Breast Implants" report, then he knows or should know that the report did not give implants a clean bill of health. It did, however, conclude that a great deal of further research has to be done. It is unfortunate that plastic surgeons are given this opportunity to freely advertise their wares in the media. And it is tragic that yet another generation of eighteen-year-olds with "small breast disease!" will rush to make an appointment with s and his kind. These young women would be much better advised to heed the words of Dr. Blais (who was quoted in your article) or to read a recently published brochure (2002) by Command Trust Network, "Are Breast Implants for You?", which is based on the facts and not on the money-driven propaganda served up by greedy and uncaring plastic surgeons. Pray where did you get that number? And tell me, at what rate do the implants rupture. If your life has been destroyed, it is because of people like you. Don't blame me for your problems. It's not fair to me and it won't help you. I have been writing about implants since 1992 including a monograph with many citations. You'll find all this material on my website at www.fumento.com. I found your friend Dr. Hardbutt on PubMed. He's published a handful of papers on the toxic effects of heavy metals, but there was nothing on implants. Then I found one on the Web where he's blaming platinum and implants for causing asthma. Going back to PubMed, I found no other articles linking implants and asthma. Thus Hardbutt came up with what scientists and doctors call " unverifiable results, " meaning useless until someone else comes along and finds the same thing. Finally, insofar as I don't have a lot of money and I'm really not sure how much power I have either, you'll have to choose C): In this to spread the truth.
