Guest guest
I am a night owl too, always up until midnight sometimes until 2 and some nights I just don't get much sleep. When I first found out all the problems I had, it was even worse. I didn't even try to sleep until about 4 AM. Then I would sleep til noon. I also have neuropathy in hands, arms, legs and feet, and sometimes sciatic nerve problems. Even the little aches would be just enough to keep me from sleeping if I went to bed and tried to sleep. Lately my restless leg has been bothering me me, either keeping me awake or waking me up after I get to sleep. I don't even try to sleep in a bed any more. Just sleep in the recliner, and I find that I don't wake up as much at night, only have to go to the bathroom once instead of two or three times. I have read articles that say that people who have serious life threatening illnesses are apt to follow a similar pattern. And from what I could understand, it isn't necessarily nerves, concern that keeps us awake. It is really funny, but I can sleep through the pain of an incision, but the little pains that come on are the ones that keep me awake and wake me up. Seems weird. Guest guest
I’m not sure I’m exactly a night owl, but I do have a cycle longer than 24 hours and that affects mostly my “social” life! It may be because all during the day there are interruptions and visits (all welcome) and things that keep concentration either in spurts or non-existent. Another thing is when I’m “onto something” I can concentrate for many hours until I am finished. Maybe that’s a bad habit at times, but otherwise, something intervenes that I “have” to do and it is hard to get back to something that is 3 layers down! I love early morning for the spiritual (for lack of a better term) atmosphere of awakening – birds, dawn, sunrise . . . I’m in CST time zone – Alabama. The decline in our standard of living may not be a sign of economic failure; rather, it may be part of the cure for our economic ills. -- Hawken in The Next Economy - - - - - Night Owls? Guest guest
Not weird. If I didn’t read in bed, I would NEVER get to sleep. It isn’t only life-threatening illnesses that cause strange sleep patterns. I learned while I was teaching homebound students that ones with casts – from almost whole-body casts to “mere” broken limbs – typically did not go to sleep easily. They’d stay awake until overcome, usually late, and slept on into the late day. It happened even if they were awakened early. The cycle went on. I have never needed much sleep until here lately. I can nap twice and still sleep 12 hours. But that’s only sometimes. The slightest eventful day tires me more than I would ever have imagined! One short trip to the store just does me in. One period of traipsing about with a congenial friend is almost more than I can take. But I will not stop going whenever somebody rattles their keys and says, “Let’s go”! Guest guest
I do the sleeping to. Just try to accomplish what I can when I'm not sleeping. And the tired.... yuck. I was going to reply to Bob about the grocery store and how it does him in, but I'll just do it here. If I don't do it when I first get up it ain't going to happen. By afternoon, even if I've had a nap, the idea of carrying that stuff in is more than I can handle. You have to plan to do everything. I try to plan grocery to correspond with oldest son being at home, but with work and school he's not home all that much. All the stuff I used to do without even considering that it was part of the plan. That is THE most frustrating thing to me of all the parts of being ill. Well, that and the fact that I accomplish in a week what I used to accomplish in 1/2 a day. Course there is a solution I have found to the grocery. It used to be fast food, but that turns my stomach now. A person can only eat so much fast food, uggh and I am such a good cook. The other solution is don't eat. Guest guest
Some grocery store chains deliver now. Not sure if that's available in your area. In California we have Albertson's and Ralphs. MaC wildoats_es wrote: I do the sleeping to. Just try to accomplish what I can when I'm not sleeping. And the tired.... yuck. Guest guest
I have to read to go to sleep too. Finished my last library book today. Not sure if my non fiction book will put me to sleep tonight. Might have to reread something. I can't plan to go to sleep, if I do, then I can't sleep for sure. As to activity, if I do something one morning, then I need the next day off to recover. Jan H > > > I do the sleeping to. Guest guest
Thanks Mac. No deliveries here. We had a little hometown grocery that did once but they couldn't compete with the big chains and are gone now. They had the most superior meat and freshest veggies too. We aren't big enough for an Albertson's and such. > > Some grocery store chains deliver now. Guest guest
Imperial Valley is around the Salton Sea isn't it? I grew up in Minnesota where it is pretty green when it isn't all white. So, when I got here, one of the first people I met took me to the River (the Colorado River) where the Indian tribes have irrigated farms with lots of green so that I would feel at home. But, I think the muted colors of the desert and its plants are much more restful. And a lot of that green was alfalfa which I am allergic too. Jan H > > You people dont know what desert is.
