Your Voice is Needed Again: FDA ADVISORY PANEL IS STILL PUTTING INDUSTRY PROFITS OVER GOOD SCIENCE FDA ADVISORY PANEL STILL PUTTING INDUSTRY PROFITS OVER GOOD SCIENCE Take Action! Split Decision by Implant Panel Leaves it Up to Dr. Crawford to Choose Between Industry Profits and Women’s Safety On Tuesday and Wednesday, April 12-13 the Food and Drug Administration’s Advisory Panel on silicone breast implants recommended that one company’s product be kept off the market, while another’s could go forward for public use. FDA’s own scientists found that both companies failed to sufficiently respond to questions regarding the safety of their devices, but the panel still voted to ignore the scientific evidence. We must tell Acting Commissioner Dr. Lester Crawford to support the findings of FDA’s own scientists. He must uphold the integrity of the scientific process. Will Dr. Crawford protect America’s health? His decision on this matter will tell. Dr. Crawford must reject both applications in order to: ·Restore credibility to the FDA, and ·Protect women from health risks posed by silicone implants. Based on the scientific evidence from the industry’s own data, there is no choice for Dr. Crawford but to reject these applications. For women across the country, THERE IS NO CHOICE WITHOUT A SAFE CHOICE. MAKE SURE THAT THE FDA IS GUIDED BY SCIENCE, NOT POLITICS. Millions of women depend on the FDA to set an unbiased, reasonable standard of safety. For the public, the FDA stamp of approval implies that there is no danger. Without long-term research on these implants it is impossible to draw such a conclusion. TELL DR. CRAWFORD, MEMBERS OF CONGRESS, AND THE WHITE HOUSE THAT THE FDA MUST PUT SAFETY FIRST. FDA MUST PUT SCIENCE AHEAD OF INDUSTRY PROFITS AND REJECT APPROVAL OF SILICONE IMPLANTS FOR GENERAL USE. ACT NOW!
