Guest guest
For Heaven's sakes . What is this surgeon concerned about? The anesthesia? The pain medicine? I had an ovary removed when my breastfeeding son was three months old, thirty years ago. I resumed breastfeeding right after I awoke from surgery. http://kellymom.com/bf/can-i-breastfeed/illness-surgery/mom-surgery/ Ellen Simpson, BS, IBCLC Tampa, Florida From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Jeannine sSent: Wednesday, June 27, 2012 7:08 AMTo: Subject: breastfeeding after tonsillectomy Hello all... Guest guest
No, I'm sure it's about nursing a child after the *child* has had the surgery, and they are afraid of breaking open the wound and causing more bleeding. Kids aren't allowed to suck from a straw for a while after tonsillectomy, and of course breastfeeding is just like sucking a straw! /snarkLynn in MO For Heaven's sakes . Guest guest
Yes, I'm looking for information about breastfeeding a toddler after the child has his tonsils out. The surgeon mentioned the no straw sucking, but I know that I have read some where that breastfeeding is ok. I just need something the mother can bring to the surgeon to show that it is ok to resume breastfeeding. Jeannine

Guest guest
I would suggest the mother explains to the doctor that nursing is different to sucking through a straw, and then ask him for HIS references because she really would like to learn more about this. What a crock! Surely bottle feeding IS more like drinking through a straw?normaNorma Ritter, IBCLC, RLCBreastfeeding Matters in the Capital Regionwww.NormaRitter.com Join us on Facebook for the latest birthing and breastfeeding news and views:http://tinyurl.com/BMCRonFB Hello all... Guest guest
My daughter just had her wisdom teeth extracted and there was a no straw sucking order in her post op instructions. I asked the doc and he said they don't want them sucking out the clots that form immed after the surgery. I would say if there is any kind of sucking then BF certainly a better choice than bottle feeding, especially since they are trying to avoid the negative pressure in the mouth caused by the sucking. I would think there is a lot more pressure build up with bottle nipple sucking. This is just my humble opinion. Guest guest
How do docs tell bottle feeding moms how to handle this? I guess I don't hear of too many kids little enough to drink out of a bottle having tonsils removed, but it's sure possible.Lynn in MO My daughter just had her wisdom teeth extracted and there was a no straw sucking order in her post op instructions.
