Guest guest
Dear , Thank you for your E-mail. >I've now deleted the relevant e-mail but I wondered with the patient on the >carbemazapine for fits. Do you know which >nerve was damaged and how did the patient describe the fits she had then as >a child. What was the last one she had? Allshorn The injury was on upper arm. There is only a scar of 1cm length that you can see. She has no problem with this arm(left side) but it is the right hand which goes into flexion from time to time. She cannot remember the fits she had as a child. However, the last one was a generalized convulsion or grand mal fit. On my suggestion she is going back to her G.P. and see if her dosage can be adjusted. I found in (www.healthsquare.com) that tegretol (carbamazepine) can cause skin pigmentation. Guest guest
Hi Sylvia, It doesn't sound as though the connections I was making were valid. I have found with my own shoulder injury that when the left hand goes into spasm, and when it does I'm grateful that the nerve damage included sensory loss, the other hand can do the same in sympathy if the spasm goes on for long enough. Its apparently to do with connections via the brachial plexus and spinal nerves and the effects of cold, heat, etc. on damaged nerves which do not respond in the same way as undamaged ones. I was hypothesizing that if she were having spasms of this sort which can be quite profound they might have been interpreted as fits as a child. Obviously this is not the case as they certainly don't mimic a grand mal. But thanks for coming back with more information.
