Guest guest
Hey there, Welcome to the group. I'm sure you will find it as helpful as I have. I have been working to help manage my asthma through proper diet and eliminating things that aggravate it as well. I know its hard to give up certian things and to learn a whole new way of eating but keep perservering and I assure you it will get easier. I have a question about the blood test you had that detected your intolerance. I didn't know that a blood test could tell that. Do you know what the test was called? Did you get it through your family doctor or a specialist? Sharon New to list >I decided to have some blood tests done. Guest guest
About four years ago I had a blood test done called the ALCAT. The results of the ALCAT showed four ranges of sensitivity (no sensitivity, through positive - true allergy). Odd thing about the test was that if you have not ingested an allergen for several years the test showed that you were not allergic. I have anaphalactic reactions to eggs, but the test showed no reaction. (This part made me nervous). The test did prove helpful to me. I discovered about twenty foods that I was " sensitive " to. I avoid the higher sensitivity items altogether and watch the quantity of what I consume from the lower sensitivity items. The test was run through American Medical Testing Laboratories in Hollywood Florida. My nutritionist was the provider that suggested I have this test run. I do not believe my insurance covered the test at the time because I remember vividly that the test cost $200.00. (Maybe I was reimbursed part - I just don't remember). Whatever the cost, this test was worth my doing. Ask your doctor or nutritionist about this - it can't hurt.
Guest guest
Hi Jokay, Sorry, didn't know what to call you. Welcome to the group. Glad to have you with us. Anneliese -----Original Message-----From: jokay_in_the_uk Sent: Wednesday, August 21, 2002 4:27 PMTo: asthma Subject: New to listHi - I'm new to the list and thought I'd introduce myself.I was diagnosed with asthma 10 years ago and, thankfully, have never had an attack. In the last couple of years, it has deteriorated, mainly due to stress, I think, and I decided to have some blood tests done. These showed a strong intolerrance to dairy & wheat, and I failed miserably the first time I tried to exclude them. Now, I'm trying again, and am trying to focus on what I *can* eat, rather than what I can't.I look forward to learning more about asthma!
