Guest guest
My NT 7 year old has her first cavity. We're getting a composite filling in a couple of weeks. We drink water purified by reverse osmosis, so the kids don't get fluoride in the water. I've refused fluoride treatments at the dentist's office. Am I doing the right thing? And the dentist keeps encouraging me to have my kids' permanent teeth sealed. I spoke to a local dentist who replaces amalgams (her son is autistic and she's knows the latest in biomedical), and she said that the sealant can be broken down by the body. A metal, an amalgam, for example, cannot be broken down into simpler parts. So the sealants are considered safer than an amalgam, but that I would have to make my own decision about whether I want chemicals on my kids' teeth. Help! Has anyone else researched these issues? Guest guest
Regarding sealants, my dentist said that the material he uses for sealants is the same as what is in the white composite filling -- so, if my son got cavities, he'd have the stuff on his teeth anyway. I decided it was better for him to not get the cavities. I haven't done any research, though, so maybe sealants aren't the best way to go. -- And the dentist keeps encouraging me to have my kids' permanent teeth sealed. Guest guest
Penny, You may want to check the archives of Chelatingkids2 and Autism-Mercury on 4-2-04 under the subject Dental Sealants. Also the subject came up again on the Autism-Mercury list around 9-22-04. You might also want to check ABMD on the topic. When I asked I got negative feedback and nothing really positive. The way I understand it you have to apply something first to the tooth to erode the enamel so the sealant will stick. Sealants are not permanent and probably will need to be replaced. One mother complained that when the sealant wore off the surface was discolored and the enamel thinner. That is just some of the feedback I heard. Sorry couldn't be more helpful. Guest guest
I do not give my kids fluoride either. If you eat a diet filled with health and not junk then you really shouldn't need treatments. If your childs body it not at a 100% why add a neurotoxin into the mix. Follow your heart.... Marla I've refused fluoride treatments at the dentist's office. Am I doing the right thing?
Guest guest
I recently stopped using toothpaste with fluoride. We have a well, so there is no fluoride in our water either. We don't seem to be having cavity problems without the fluoride. Re: dental issues I do not give my kids fluoride either.
