I think the reason why you don't see this in GA is because of Emory

University. They have total control over the school systems there and

the schools are not really up-to-date on treatments for autism...and

they are so into TEACCH!

I live in Florida (I'm grew up in Atlanta for 19 yrs) and I think

Florida has such good programs because they are the only state that

has the Behavior Analysis Certification program. So they have a lot

of behavior consultants here that open schools and work with

families. Plus the Medwaiver program in Florida is doing an

experiement on funding (Consumer Directed Program), that allows

families to use medwaiver funding to hire/fire their own therapists

and to allocate monies where they need them. One family I work for

uses their funds to pay for their consultant (Dr. Carbone),

therapists, speech therapy, OT, $100/month educational supplies,

music therapy, hippo therapy, and they pay for the family's

housekeeper!!!! That is well over $3000/month they are receiving in

funds.

Georgia needs to get up-to-date on funding for autism! They need to

realize that Emory is not the best program in the world. When was

the last time Emory even put out data on their program anyways? I

have not heard anything good or about how their program is doing in a

long time!

Makes me so mad...teacch is so vague compared to ABA for autistic spectrum

children. I had a data sheet comparing the outcomes of TEACCH & ABA that I

sent to EARC. wish I could find it. Not surprisingly, the ABA kids fared

considerably better. Never got a response from Emory. what a surprise.

Georgia is so backward. We are moving to England within the next 2 years.

50% of the school districts over there provide ABA.

If we were to live in the US permanently I would probably move to Florida.
