Hi Rogene,

When my Mom moved in you were allowed to have dogs. When the current condo president's dog died, he decided to change the rules and say no pets. People (very few) have tried to change it but are not able to. This is a community of older people and they wouldn't be able to walk a dog.

I spoke to an attorney. He said that they can set pretty much any rule they want. They can also allow certain people to break those rules and give some a hard time. I looked this up on the internet and found that one condo community voted on no kids! Can you imagine. They wanted to make it a senior community. One woman had to sell her place because she just didn't have the money for an attorney. She was also assured that she probably wouldn't win it either. I was told that they can do this and it is perfectly legal. This just amazes me.

Oh, when they did change the rule they did grandfather in the dogs. Anyone that currently had a dog could keep it but once it died, no more dogs. My Mom has been here for 16 years and they changed the dog rule about 2 years after she moved in.

As for avoiding stress....I think that as long as we are alive it is almost impossible in this world to avoid it.

It is impossible to avoid stress but it is important for each of us to find ways to deal with it so it impacts our lives and health as little as possible. For me, the answer is yoga, which can be done very gently if necessary due to health or physical condition. Everyone can do yoga, everyone.

There are ways of handling stress . . . or buying into

it. . . It's different for everyone . . . I find

trying to manage some of the yoga poses very stressful

(not to mention painful) - especially when I'm doing

it with a group and feel self-conscious! I only wish I

could do them well!

At one time, I was having a great deal of neck/back

pain. I thought I was going to have to have back

surgery. The doctor who was recommended didn't work

out, so I decided to try something on my own.

I made a list of everything that was bothering me . ..

From a messy closet, to gagets that didn't work, to

little things I needed but was putting off buying.

Every time I felt that nagging feeling, It went on the

list. . . Then I worked the list . . . by the time I

got to the bottom, my neck and back pain were gone.

There were a few things I couldn't do anything about,

but by the time I took care of the little things, the

few that remained didn't matter anymore.

This is what I mean about managing stress . . . Right

now, I cannot see or talk to my sister because, if I

do, I will get too stressed. I accept she is who she

is, and I love her and wish her well. But I can't let

her into my life. Maybe one day things will change,

but I'm not going to stress over trying to make things

work, so I release her. My poor brother was stressing

over how to get us together until I told how I felt. .

.. Then he could release it too!

BTW . . . can you read the scans I'm posting? Do they

take very long to open? I'm trying to make them as

legible and small as possible. At one time, I scanned

and OCR'd hundreds of implant documents! . . .Talk

about time! Computers and internet connections weren't

nearly as good as todays.

Hugs to all,

Rogene

Hi Rogene,

Yoga can be stressful if you worry about the correctness of poses. If you let go of getting the pose correct, the stress often leaves. There are many ways to modify poses to suit each individual. My teacher is very good at adapting poses for everyone. Classes can be stressful too because people often compare themselves to others. Yoga is about each person’s experience, not other people or even the pose. It’s taken me 5 years to finally get this. :)

Rogene,

I have a very dysfunctional family. If you look the word up....you will find my family name next to the word! :) Yes, I can joke about it but have found myself living in that dysfunction again! I'm able to manage stress much better when it isn't living under the same roof as me.

This is going to be a very long summer for me!

Also, it does not take a long time to open your postings and I am able to read all scans. No problem. Yes, computers are much better than they had been in the past. I should know, I started working on them when there was no such thing as a hard drive. Each application you wanted to use had to be inserted into a 5 1/4" floppy drive. That was before the Internet. Yes, I guess I'm aging myself! The first hard drive I worked on was only 10 meg. Can you imagine???
