Guest guest
Dear all, hoping for some input on interpretation of hair analysis results. I am unsure how they relate to say blood test results in meaning (apart from presumably reflecting historical data) My pt (female dob 01-11-72 PMH Recurrent miscarriage) has contacted foresight and found that she has very high Ca levels (976.00 reff 400) and also mg (76.95 reff 40) her Chromium was also very high (8 reff 1.2) cobalt, nickel, selenium and manganese slightly raised. Aluminium was lower than reff, but cadmium is v. high (0.27 reff 0.12) as is mercury (0.21 reff 0.18) and lead (2.10 reff 1.40). (Taken from analysis of hair sample) She has had previous tests (4) where some of these values have been worse so the situation appears to be improving. What I am finding difficult to understand is what would result in such high levels of Ca, Mg and Chromium in HAIR. Does it truly represent the blood situation? Also whilst on the subject does any one know what Molybdenum and Vandium are and also what the implications are if they are raised? My apologies for sounding so ill-informed! I only hope I can get some feedback or research Somewhere. Thanks in advance, Hannah Barton MNIMH Mid Devon.
Guest guest
Only vague knowledge of hair testing but I think it is a good basis to see what previous exposure to substances has been so you get a history of exposure, whereas blood shows what the situation is today. Vanadium and Molybdenum are both metals (transition elements). Vanadium is rare and used in steel making. In humans its essentiality is not proven but in animals it may have a role in lipid and catecholamine metabolism, bone building, erythrocyte formation, thyroid function, body does store it mainly in the liver, kidneys and bone. It can be absorbed in through the lungs as dust. Molybdenum is close in chemical properties to Chromium and Tungsten (same group in Periodic table-sorry just been doing chemistry with my OU students!). Again stored in liver, kidneys, plus brain, lung, spleen to a lesser degree. An essential micro-nutrient it is required for the function of two enzyme systems, and is necessary for iron metabolism. In animals toxicity results in weight loss and growth retardation. Has this px lived or worked near iron or steel works or close to contaminated land as she has clearly been exposed to all these metals in higher than normal amounts?
