Guest guest
Hi , I just happened to have tried this for my 8 year old son with ASD. For the first 2 weeks, I thought that this medication did improved (but mildly) his expression, and behaviour (more outgoing, happy, interactive). However after 2 weeks we had some apparent new behaviour of anxiety; for example, we once went walking in the hills in Scotland and went down the slope not following a path- We crossed through high ferns which really did irritate my son- He got very upset, not figuring out what was blocking him (it was as though he panicked so much that he could not think and regain calmness). He got worse and did not stop when we left the area- he was engaged in a panic attack which seemed to be getting out of hand. It took several hours to calm down. There were other similar episode of anxiety and lack of control. I put it down on the Piracetam, because it was new and because the leaflet inside says something like potential problems of withdrawn and other potential side effects (I can't remember whoch ones now) which I felt could make autism worse. I have a friend, also mum of an ASD child who tried this with her son too- She was happier and left it for longer, but yet her son seemed also to have increased nervousity and she stopped. Our doctor actually suggested that this drug was more appropriate for ASD children with low energy level. Having said this, as every child is different, you might have your child responding well; it might be worth a try just in case, if you have nothing better to try based on the lab work abnormalities you might have found. This drug is more commonly used in France than in US I think. I do not know how this drug works; it might be good to check this out too. Good luck Lorene
Guest guest
I bought it for Ian because of reports that it helps with dyslexia, but I didn't get any clear feedback that it made a difference over the week or so that he took it. I'm now using it when I'm mentally fatigued. I take 1600 mg in the a.m. with choline. (It's much more effective when taken with choline.) Later in the a.m. I feel it " kick in " . Not a high feeling, just more clearheaded and able to function more efficiently at work. It's popular as an anti-aging supplement. You can find more info at www.antiaging-systems.com. Guest guest
Lorene - thanks for all the info. How much were you giving your son? I tried one 800 mg. capsule and I think I might try 1/2 cap and see. I've already got a kid who is afraid to go into his bedroom by himself so I certainly don't want to make him more anxious. I have a feeling this will be a short-lived little experiment.
